The Molly of Denali app, winner of the Excellence in Early Learning Digital Media award from the American Library Association, offers a fantastic adventure for kids aged 4-8. This interactive app allows children to explore the Alaskan wilderness by walking through the village of Qyah, where they can engage in a variety of educational games and activities that teach them about Alaskan culture and nature.
From tending to a garden and fishing for salmon to dog sledding and creating beautiful beading projects, the Molly of Denali app provides an immersive experience that not only entertains but also supports foundational literacy skills and reading comprehension. Kids can solve problems, accomplish tasks, and learn valuable lessons while having fun.
The app features several educational games that introduce children to reading informational texts. They can explore the local wildlife with Molly as she takes pictures for her vlog in the Alaskan Adventure game. In Veggiezilla, they can learn how to grow vegetables in a garden. Fish Camp teaches them about catching techniques as they fish for salmon. Sled Dog Dash allows them to go on missions and care for their dogs. At the Denali Trading Post, they can gain social skills and help customers in the shop. And in Beading Art, they can craft traditional Alaskan Native beadwork.
Alongside these games, kids are encouraged to explore the community and nature of Qyah. They can pick blueberries for Molly's dad, engage in a snowball fight with Molly's friends Trini and Tooey, drum with Grandpa Nat, and much more.
The Molly of Denali app not only provides fun learning experiences but also highlights Alaska Native values with a focus on community and traditions. Kids can learn about these values through the app's language lessons for Alaska Native phrases like "Mahsi' Choo."
